The 'Technical' Stuff

With ten years of teaching, tutoring, and writing/editing experience and secondary ELA Teacher certification, I offer private, customized tutoring for English Language Arts and Literature including reading/literary analysis, writing, and test preparation for middle school, high school, college, and adults including ESL and non-native English speakers. I also offer a range of writing and editing services, and am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association.

I have worked with numerous doctoral candidates, undergraduate students, professors, and academic or creative writing professors from the University of Houston, University of Texas, University of Missouri, and a number of K-12 campus administrators, curriculum writers, and publishers from across the Region IV area and beyond.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri. In addition to tutoring professionally both during and after my undergraduate studies, I spent time working for Persea Publishing based in New York, NY reviewing poetry manuscripts, and I also worked at The Missouri Review in an internship capacity where I reviewed both fiction and non-fiction manuscript submissions in addition to conducting author interviews and facilitating audio recording and audio editing for selected works of fiction.

In addition to my classroom teaching at two Houston-area districts, I worked for two years as a professional writing tutor at Lone Star College in northwest Houston where I helped develop specialized programs for ESOL students for both test prep and the development of conversational English skills.

The Big Picture:

I have a passion for words, and I hold the belief that words have immense power, and most importantly, that every person's potential can be elevated substantially through effective communication, compelling use of language, and a universal understanding of the human condition which only the field of English language and literature can offer. I look forward to working with you on whatever project, writing assignment, or tutoring needs you have!
